If the electronic product you are designing plugs in to a wall socket for power, chances are that you will need to comply with variety of standards such as CE, IEC 62301(standby power), IEC61000-3-2(current harmonics) , Energy star, etc. Traditionally compliance tests are performed at the end of design cycle and in many cases by a third party compliance lab. This is great if everything goes according to plan but the situation changes quickly if your design fails compliance testing. First you have to figure out why it failed and devise a fix and then schedule re-testing. Board turns and re-testing can get expensive and time consuming.

Scenarios such as this are a big reason why pre-compliance testing, earlier in the design cycle, is so important.
