Innovators in Electronic Design - Up & Comer: Keshav Amla, Avishtech

Dec. 13, 2022
Keshav Amla is the creative force behind Avishtech's PCB products—Gauss Stack Pro, Gauss Stack, Gauss 2-d and Gauss Synthesis—that bring a new level of reliability predictions to the PCB design stackup process previously not available in the industry.

Keshav Amla is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Avishtech. Keshav has held research positions at HP Inc., Stanford, Caltech, and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab, working on diverse topics, ranging from phonon transport to coronal mass ejections to dielectric properties. He has strong expertise in materials science, mechanical engineering, computational science, and software development.

Keshav founded the company while still a grad student at Stanford, at the time pursuing a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, but left the program to work full-time on building Avishtech’s leading-edge software and hardware solutions to address the most pressing and valuable engineering problems facing the development of electronics hardware. He has always been driven by the belief that even the most elusive and challenging questions in science and engineering can be answered with enough skill, knowledge, and hard work. Keshav holds a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Mechanical Engineering from Caltech and a Master of Science in Materials Science & Engineering from Stanford University.

Since founding Avishtech, Keshav has been instrumental in architecting, developing, and bringing to market breakthrough first-of-their-kind software through the Gauss suite of simulation and design products, which enable the computational prototyping of printed circuit boards (PCBs). These toolsets enable electronics companies to iterate through to an optimal design before ever building a board, thus saving millions of dollars in time, materials, and manpower. This is an area that has long been ignored by the incumbent simulation and design software providers and was a critical pain point.

Along with his nimble team and co-founders, Keshav has executed a vision to eliminate the need for expensive prototyping and test vehicle processes that don’t work. He's ushering in a new paradigm for PCB and electronics hardware design and development.

These products have already seen strong market traction and are becoming a core part of the design process. Gauss customers have been fundamentally changing the way they approach next-gen development.

However, not one to rest on his laurels, Keshav and his team have been working tirelessly to constantly expand on the capabilities of the Gauss software line. Gauss Stack Pro, announced in July, extends Gauss Stack’s capabilities to also account for the effects of a board’s layout on key design aspects. And a major new offering called Gauss Sustainability Analysis, which became available in October, helps companies assess the environmental impacts of their board designs.

Through these endeavors, Keshav has been leading by example, both within Avishtech through his relentless work ethic, and in the industry, writ-large, through his technology leadership.
