DC-DC Converter Drives up to 6 A

Oct 17, 2006 11:30 PM

Tyco Electronics Power Systems’ TLynx Series is the third generation of the successful Austin Lynx Series non-isolated dc-dc converters. The 3-A and 6-A PicoTLynx modules are the first introductions of the TLynx Series.

The TLynx series will be available in 3-A, 6-A, 12-A, 20-A and 30-A versions that offer scalable cost-efficient solutions suited for a wide variety of power architectures, including Hybrid and Intermediate Bus Architectures (IBA). The input voltage range for the TLynx series has been widened to offer a 2.4-V to 5.5-V (3.3 V/5 V) version and a 4.5-V to 14-V (5 V/12 V) version. Samples of the 3-A and 6-A PicoTLynx are currently available with 3.3-V/5-V input voltage.

The TLynx Series offers the Tunable-Loop feature that allows engineers to optimize the control loop to significantly improve transient response and reduce the amount of external filtering. When the control loop is optimized using the Tunable-Loop feature on the 3-A and 6-A PicoTLynx, load transient response can be improved up to five times using identical external capacitance. The Tunable-Loop is easy to implement, requiring a minimal set of additional low-cost components and no additional pins.

The PicoTLynx offers the same high efficiency as the Lynx series but with significantly improved thermal performance due to innovations in design and packaging. The 6-A PicoTLynx delivers fully rated output current at 85°C with no airflow.

The PicoTLynx, currently available in a small SMT package measuring only 0.48 in. x 0.48 in. x 0.25 in. (12.2 mm x 12.2 mm x 6.25 mm), features the LGA (land-grid-array) interconnect method. Supporting an industrial operation temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, the modules meet EU Directive 2002/95/EC RoHS initiatives as well as industry-standard board cleaning processes.

Samples of APXH003A0X-SRZ and APXH006A0X-SRZ are available.
