Synchronous Buck Reduces EMI

Mar 21, 2007 10:18 AM

Intersil’s ISL8502 is a 2.5-A, wide input voltage synchronous buck regulator. It reduces noise and EMI filter requirements through programmable switching frequency and external synchronization. The device features an integrated switching MOSFETs and a thermally enhanced compact 4-mm x 4-mm QFN package.

The device features external synchronization capability with master/ slave configuration to enable the user to synchronize up to four ICs out of phase and significantly reduce EMI in the design while also providing multiple outputs from the same input rail. The device’s adjustable switching frequency range of 500 kHz to 1.2 MHz ensures high efficiency and a smaller number of external components.

Target applications for the ISL8502 include point-of-load supplies. The device is available now in a 24-lead QFN package and is priced at $2.21 each in 1000-unit quantities.
