Spotlight on Digital Power
Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson, has expanded its popular Astec NTS Series line of 350-W bulk ac-dc switching power supplies from Astec Power to include 54-V output configurations. With active power factor correction to minimize input harmonic distortion, the compact Astec NTS359 switchers accept input from 85 Vac to 264 Vac or 120 Vdc to 320 Vdc. The devices are also suited for use as ac-dc front-ends for dc-dc converters.
A built-in Or-ing diode eliminates the need for external circuitry when using the device in a redundant configuration. The units also include a 12-V, 1-A auxiliary output and a 5-V, 2-A standby output, as well as overload, overvoltage and thermal protection. Available with convection cooling or optional forced-air, the compact units are ideally suited for designs using distributed power architecture.
The NTS359 models feature a 4-in by 7-in footprint for an impressive 8.3 W/in3 . Operating at 85% efficiency, the convection-cooled configuration provides 200 W for 1U rack-mount chassis and other low-profile applications, while the fan-cooled option supplies the full rated output up to 50°C with 30 CFM forced air. For added flexibility, the units can be set up for lengthwise or crosswise airflow. Available now, pricing begins at $299 in OEM quantities.
