International Rectifier introduced the IRS2500S µPFC™ power factor correction (PFC) control IC for switch mode power supply (SMPS), LED drivers, fluorescent and HID electronic ballast applications.
The IRS2500S µPFC controller can be configured to operate in critical conduction boost PFC or flyback configuration. The new device also features a total harmonic distortion (THD) optimization circuit to reduce line current harmonics. The controller has high noise immunity, simplifying design and reducing system cost.
Available in an SO-8 package, the IRS2500S also features micro power start up current of less than 50µA, quiescent current of 2.5mA, drive capability of +800mA/-600mA as well as static and dynamic over-voltage protection and over-current protection. The short minimum on time of the device allows wide input range power factor correction for universal input operation.
Pricing for the IRS2500S begins at US $0.33 each in quantities of 10,000-units. Production quantities are available immediately. The devices are lead free and RoHS compliant. Prices are subject to change.
