PI (Physik Instrumente) announced the release of a new compact linear stage, just 45mm wide, which combines high positioning accuracy with higher force and velocity than conventional inertia drives. The space-saving Q-545 provides advantages for use in research and OEM instrumentation that require positioning precision and alignment, such as photonics, bio-technology, nanotechnology, precision-optics, life-sciences, or medical design.
Stick-slip drive motors, lacking gears, are powered by the natural difference in the static and dynamic friction coefficients found between two surfaces. This direct linear motion drive principle reduces the number of components that can wear, making the stages more compact, reliable, and cost efficient. In addition to a number of standard product variations with 0.5" and 1" travel, PI stages and drives can be customized for OEM production quantities.
Linear Technology announced the LT8610AX, a 3.5A, 42V input capable synchronous step-down switching regulator, which operates in ambient temperatures up to 175°C. Synchronous rectification delivers efficiency as high as 95% while Burst Mode operation keeps quiescent current under 3.5µA in no-load standby conditions. Its 3.7V to 42V input voltage range is ideal for high temperature applications such as down-hole drilling equipment with power sources ranging from 5V to 40V. The LT8610AX's electrical parameters are 100% tested at 175°C, offering a VREF accuracy of 2% over the entire -40°C to 175°C temperature range. At ambient temperatures of 175°C, the LT8610AX offers over 90% efficiency (for 12VIN to 3.3VOUT conversions) over a wide load current range of 10mA to 1A, ideal for battery powered applications commonly found in down-hole drilling systems. The LT8610AX's Burst Mode operation offers ultralow quiescent current, well suited for applications requiring extended operating battery life. The LT8610AX's 16-lead thermally enhanced MSOP package provides a compact, thermally efficient footprint.
The LT8610AX utilizes internal top and bottom high efficiency power switches with the necessary boost diode, oscillator, control and logic circuitry integrated into a single die. This eliminates the need for any external Schottky diodes, which can be problematic at high temperatures. The LT8610AX's lack of thermal shutdown is ideal for high temperature environments.
Chroma released the 63224A 24kW DC Electronic Load in its new 63200A series of high power DC loads. Designed for testing a wide range of power conversion products including AC/DC and server power supplies, DC/DC converters, EV batteries, automotive charging stations, and other power electronics components, these loads can be synchronously paralleled up to 480kW and dynamically synchronized for generating complex multi-channel transient profiles. The 300% peak overpower capability provides extra headroom for fault condition simulations in automotive batteries, and fuel cells.
Switchcraft expanded its Mini-Con-X line of sealed circular connectors to add a right angle PCB mount option for all panel mount configurations.
The Con-X line, original developed by Conxall in the 1980's for the marine industry, is a series of waterproof connectors in a variety of sizes and configurations. The product line is known for offering a high quality, American made connector at a very affordable price point, while Conxall's molded cable assemblies have long set the industry standard for responsive production.
The 18mm Mini-Con-X is one of the most popular sizes in sealed connectors, and although it has been available with PC contacts, mounting the connector perpendicular to the board required the customer to build a custom PCB. This feature is now available standard in 2 thru 8 position connectors from Switchcraft/Conxall's worldwide network of distributors in a narrow or wide configuration.
Vishay Intertechnology introduced a new 1 W axial cemented, fusible wirewound safety resistor that delivers safe and silent fusing operation during overload conditions, while withstanding pulse voltages of at least 2 kV (1.2 / 50 µs) per IEC 61000-4-5 for 75 W.
The Vishay Draloric AC01.CS combines a fusing time of < 30 s for a 32 W overload with a special nonflammable silicon cement coating for immediate interruption without flame and explosion when AC mains voltage (110 VAC / 230 VAC) is applied. Typical applications include electric appliances, energy meters, and power supplies.
The device released today is specially designed to meet UL1412 safety requirements (formal approval pending). In addition to fusing "without a bang," the AC01..CS acts as an inrush current limiting resistor during normal operation. The safety resistor's specially developed lacquer coating has superior thermal and electrical insulating properties. This allows designers to meet safety requirements more easily, while eliminating the need to put additional fuses in series with the input resistor.
The AC01..CS provides a power rating of 1.1 W at an ambient temperature of 40 °C and 1.0 W at 70 °C. The RoHS-compliant device offers resistance from 3 W to 100 W, resistance tolerance of ± 5 %, and temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of ± 200 ppm/K.
Allegro MicroSystems announced a new unipolar Hall-effect switch with an externally enabled diagnostic function and user-programmable switchpoints. Allegro's A1162 has on-chip electromagnetic coils that are used to implement self-test of the sensor's entire magnetic and electrical signal chain. It is designed for systems where precise magnet switchpoints and safety, reliability, or both, are critical, such as those designed to meet the requirements of ISO 26262. In normal operating mode, the A1162 functions as a standard unipolar Hall-effect switch. The device output transistor turns on (output signal switches low) in the presence of sufficient magnetic field (>BOP max). The output transistor of the A1162 switches off (output signal switches high) when the magnetic field is removed (automotive applications include shift selectors (PRNDL), seat belt buckles and brake sensors.
When the diagnostic feature is enabled, the output of the A1162 provides a square wave output which confirms the device is properly sensing the internally generated magnetic field.
Therefore, use of the A1162 either eliminates the need for redundant sensors in safety-critical applications or increases robustness in safety-critical applications that might otherwise require redundant sensors (drive-by-wire systems, etc.).
This monolithic IC integrates a voltage regulator, Hall voltage generator, small-signal amplifier, chopper stabilization, Schmitt trigger, and short-circuit-protected open-collector output able to sink up to 25 mA. The A1162 is available in an 8-pin eTSSOP package and is priced at $0.49 in quantities of 1,000.
IXYS announced a new generation of high-current Trench devices: 40V TrenchT4 Power MOSFETs. Available at either 270A or 340A current rating, they are optimized for DC to DC converters, synchronous rectification in switched-mode power conversion applications, high current Solid State Relays and motor control applications.
With on-state resistance as low as 1.7 milliohms (sub 1 milliohm Ron devices soon to be released), these TrenchT4 devices enable a reduction in the number of MOSFETs needed, especially in synchronous rectification. Paralleling multiple devices may not be necessary due to their high-current carrying capability and high power density, thereby simplifying the power system and improving its reliability at the same time.
The new MOSFETs are avalanche rated as well and can withstand a junction temperature of up to 175 degrees C making them robust against device failures caused by voltage transients and the accidental turn-on of parasitic bipolar transistors inherent in the MOSFET structure. Also, the low reverse recovery charge of the body diode mitigates voltage overshoots and reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI).
These new 40V TrenchT4 Power MOSFETs are available in the following international standard size packages: TO-220, TO-263(3 or 7-lead), SOT-227 and TO-247. Some example part numbers are IXTH270N04T4, IXTP270N04T4, IXTA340N04T4-7, and IXTH340N04T4. The first two are rated at 270A and the last two 340A.
Featuring a bridge-tied-load (BTL) drive architecture to minimize audible switching noise and electromagnetic interference (EMI), the AM9468 and AM9469 brushless DC motor drivers introduced by Diodes Incorporated provide smart driving of cooling fans in notebook and desktop computers, instrumentation and similar equipment, as well as supporting a wide range of other medium-voltage, low-power, motor-driving applications.
Flexible motor speed control is achieved using either an external PWM signal or DC voltage, or a voltage derived from a thermistor network. The AM9468/AM9469 then adjust the duty cycle of the full-bridge output driver stage based on this input signal, while a separate frequency generator provides a tachometer output that allows for external monitoring of motor speed. The BTL architecture amplifies the sinusoidal magnetizing flux density signal used to drive the motor's coils. This avoids large changes in current during commutation and helps achieve low noise operation. The speed control PWM duty cycle is superimposed on the BTL drive signal.
The AM9468/AM9469 feature a built-in quick-start circuit along with rotor lock detection. This protects the motor coil from overheating or burning out, but also ensures an automatic restart when the lock is removed. Other features include a current limit circuit and a Hall bias output, all contributing to a solution that significantly reduces the external component count and PCB footprint, and lowers component and manufacturing costs.
The AM9468 and AM9469 are priced at $0.26 and $0.28 each in 2,500 piece single-reel quantities.
TDK Corporation introduced the TDK-Lambda PFE1000FA series of AC-DC power modules, a significant upgrade to the popular PFE1000F series launched eight years ago. The new series achieves up to a 4% efficiency improvement (up to 90%). Like the existing models, the innovative PFE series enables designers to utilize a single device containing power factor correction, regulation and input-output isolation. These modules have been widely used in outdoor and liquid cooled power systems, addressing the need for fan-less applications in the industrial, COTS, signage and communications markets.
Operating from a universal input of 85-265Vac, the PFE1000FA models are available with nominal outputs of 12, 28 and 48Vdc and can be adjusted ±20% via a trim-pin. All the power modules can deliver full power with an operating baseplate temperature range of -40 to +100°C (+85°C for the 28V and 48V models below 170Vac). An isolated module good signal, remote on/off, 12V standby output, over voltage, over current and over temperature protection is included on all models.
The package size and pin-out is in the same 100 x 13.4 x 160mm format as the original series, allowing an easy upgrade of existing designs for up to 30% lower power losses and reduced temperatures. An enhancement to the PFC circuit gives a more sinusoidal input current wave form, providing lower harmonic currents as defined by the IEC 61000-3-2 standard. The warranty has been extended to 5 years.
Semtech Corporation announced the µClamp2417P, a 7-line surge-rated, 24V transient protection array for broad use in safeguarding industrial interfaces against transient voltage threats. The µClamp2417P offers a 10A (8x20µs waveform) surge immunity level in a small 2.6 x 2.6mm QFN package and is ideal for safeguarding industrial data interfaces from electrical transient threats including electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical fast transients (EFT) and lightning surge transients.
The 7-line µClamp2417P, with its excellent voltage clamping characteristics, delivers efficient transient protection for multi-line industrial data ports.
