Stepdown Converter Suits Portable Industrial Applications

Jun 27, 2007 1:55 PM

The AAT1162 from Advanced Analogic Technologies (AnalogicTech) is the first in a family of synchronous stepdown dc-dc converters designed to operate from a 12-V input and deliver up to 1.5 A at 5 V or lower. The converter operates across an input range of 4.0 V to 13.2 V. With a quiescent current of 115 ľA, this converter reduces power usage for high-power portable systems operating from dual-cell Li-ion or Li-polymer batteries.

Output voltage is fixed or adjustable from 0.6 V to VIN. Efficiency levels range up to 96%. The device operates at an 800-kHz switching frequency. Soft-start control limits input surge current and eliminates output voltage overshoot at startup. The device, manufactured in ModularBCD process technology, also features overcurrent and overtemperature protection. The AAT1162 sells for $0.94 each in 1000-piece quantities.
