Lithium Batteries Fit the Bill in Automatic Meter Reading

Dec 21, 2005 1:20 PM

Tadiran Batteries Ltd. has been awarded a four-year $30 million Letter of Intent for the supply of lithium batteries from a U.S.-based company Neptune Technology Group, a manufacturer of automatic meter reading (AMR) devices for water utilities. The AMR market is growing at 15% to 20% annually.

Tadiran Batteries’ PulsesPlusTM battery is a proven system consisting of Tadiran’s state-of-the-art lithium thionyl chloride batteries combined with a breakthrough technology Hybrid Layer Capacitor (HLC). This new technology is capable of supplying high energy density and high operating voltage under high pulse discharge currents.

Igal Carmi, CEO of Tadiran Batteries, said that the order received is in addition to Neptune’s previous PulsesPlus order of $5 million, which further establishes Tadiran Batteries as a world leader in supplying lithium batteries for the AMR industry. Carmi added that Tadiran’s lithium batteries have great business potential in the global AMR market which is valued in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
