Dual Converter Combines Stepdown Switcher and LDO

Jul 5, 2006 11:04 AM

Advanced Analogic Technologies’ AAT2505 is the latest addition to the company’s growing SystemPower family of power management IC products. Combining a fast transient 600-mA stepdown converter with a fast transient 300-mA low dropout (LDO) linear regulator, the AAT2505 offers a highly compact solution optimized for popular GSM mobile phone applications.

Low RDS(ON) integrated power switches on the AAT2505 stepdown converter support efficiency levels up to 98%. With a wide output voltage range of 0.6 V to VIN, the 600-mA converter also maintains a low 27-µA no-load quiescent current. Its switching frequency is 1.4-MHz. Turn-on time is 150 μs (typical).

The LDO delivers up to 300 mA of current and features an independent input pin. Optimized to support the fast line/load transient requirements of a GSM chipset, the LDO features low quiescent current and a power-OK (POK) output to signal when the output voltage is in regulation.

The AAT2505 is immediately available in a Pb-free, 12-pin TDFN33 package. The device sells for $1.14 each in 1000-piece quantities.
