The AH37xx family of high-voltage Hall effect latch ICs introduced by Diodes Inc. provides various operating magnetic thresholds to address motor control, rotational position and speed sensing requirements. The AH37xx family is designed for 3V to 28V operation and has extended temperature specification, from -40°C to +125°C, and a low temperature coefficient ensure reliable operation at the switching threshold points.
System design flexibility is achieved with different magnetic operation and release thresholds (BOP and BRP) within the family: the AH3772/4 and AH3781/2 provide high sensitivity with BOP and BRP of +25G/+40G and -25G/-40G, the medium sensitivity AH3775/6 parts are rated at +70G/+110G and-70G/-110G, and the AH3777 is the least sensitive with a +140G and -140G specification.
Linear Technology Corp. introduced the LTC4282, an energy monitoring Hot Swap controller with dual MOSFET drive to enable 100A and higher current board designs. The LTC4282 ensures safe board insertion and removal from live 2.9V to 33V backplanes by controlling external N-channel MOSFETs to gently power up capacitors, avoiding sparks, connector damage and system glitches. High-current hot-pluggable boards utilize parallel MOSFETs to reduce voltage drop, but all of these MOSFETs require large safe operating area (SOA) to ride through overcurrent faults. By controlling two matching current limited paths, the LTC4282 halves each path's SOA requirements, reducing MOSFET costs in high current applications (>50A).
Sitting at the gateway to board power, the LTC4282's ±0.7% accurate ADC reports board voltage, current, power and energy consumption through an I2C/SMBus digital interface. During overcurrent conditions, the LTC4282 folds back its 2% accurate current limit to maintain constant MOSFET power dissipation for an adjustable timeout period. The LTC4282 provides a rugged, compact solution for hot plugging and monitoring, especially in high power circuit boards in servers, network routers and switches, and enterprise data storage systems.
Sendyne released the SFP102MOD, a shunt-based enclosed module capable of current measurements to 375 A, with 45 µA resolution. The module achieves ±0.25% accuracy for any current magnitude, as long as module is within the wide specified operating temperature range of -40 °C to +125 °C. When attached to properly-sized cables/bus-bars, the SFP102MOD operates with 200 A continuous current, producing less than 45 °C temperature rise (in other words, it operates in up-to 80 °C ambient temperature environment with the continuous current of 200 A).
Sendyne makes individually calibrated units that achieve 0.05% accuracy up to 50 A, and 0.1% accuracy up to 200 A. The module features built-in precision Coulomb counting (charge accumulation), with separate counters for charge, discharge and total Coulombs. The supply voltage range is +3.3 V to +12 V. Power consumption with 3.3 V supply is under 30 mW.

ON Semiconductor introduced the HPM10, a Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC); and Ezairo 7150 SL, a wireless-enabled audio processor. The compact hybrid module is based on an open-programmable 24 bit mixed-signal DSP platform. This System in Package (SiP) solution provides wireless multi-protocol operation and is optimized for 2.4 gigahertz (GHz) band applications, including Bluetooth® Low-Energy (BLE). Ezairo 7150 SL integrates EA2M, a low power 2 Mb serial CMOS EEPROM used for storing hearing aid firmware and important parameters.
HPM10 is a Power Management IC (PMIC) that provides a high-performance solution for rechargeable batteries in hearing aids and hearing implant devices. The PMIC generates the voltage needed by the hearing aid and it also manages the charging algorithms such that the battery autonomy and the number of charging cycles are optimized. The rechargeable chemistries supported include silver-zinc (AgZn), and lithium-ion (Li-ion). HPM10 also detects zinc-air (Zn-Air) and nickel metal hydride (Ni-Mh) batteries but doesn't charge them.
Exar Corp. introduced a family of RS-232 (EIA/TIA-232) transceivers designed to operate from 3V to 5.5V supplies. The XR32220, XR32430 and XR32431 include an adjustable low voltage logic interface that simplifies their use in low voltage and multi-voltage systems.
In many applications, RS-232 transceivers interface with UARTs, MCUs and other logic devices operating from supplies less than 3.3V. The XR32220 and XR32431 feature a low voltage logic pin (VL) that can be used to adjust the transceiver's logic output levels and input thresholds for compatibility with lower supply voltage logic. The VL range is 1.65V to 5.5V. The adjustable low voltage interface eliminates the need for a level shifter/translator between the transceiver and UART or MCU.
Semtech Corp. announced the expansion of its Neo-Iso Isolated Power Switch Platform with the addition of the TS13101, a new galvanic isolated intelligent power switch. The TS13101 is optimized for compact Internet of Things (IoT) low-voltage applications such as smart thermostats, security, intelligent sensor control and other home automation systems.
The intelligence in the TS13101 provides fault and diagnostic data to the microcontroller, enabling more robust systems with a self-diagnostic capability. The Neo-Iso family of products comprises a series of intelligent power switches that control resistive and inductive loads while protecting sensitive system circuitry from voltage surges and transients. Ultra-low primary current in the range of 5-10 microamps allows the system to power itself by tapping energy from the load, avoiding the need for a secondary power source.
Allegro MicroSystems recently nnounced a new power management IC that uses a buck or buck-boost pre-regulator to efficiently convert automotive battery voltages into a tightly regulated intermediate voltage, complete with control, diagnostics, and protections. The unique buck-boost design of Allegro's A4409, allows sub 5 V input voltage operation to accommodate the latest automotive idle-stop requirements. The output of the main switching regulator supplies two 5 V LDOs, one at 300 mA and the other at 200 mA. Designed to supply power to microprocessor/DSP plus sensors, transceivers, and other loads, the A4409 is ideal for Automotive Control Units.
New 600V intelligent power modules from STMicroelectronics enhance the efficiency and reliability of motor drives in compressors, pumps, fans, and other domestic and industrial appliances. Targeting drives working up to 20kHz in hard-switching circuits, ST's modules enable an increase in energy efficiency over a range of application power outputs from 300W to 3kW.
The new devices build on the success of ST's well-proven SLLIMM family of dual-in-line modules. These provide a direct connection between a low-voltage microcontroller and a mains-powered electric motor, replacing up to 10 active components. The SLLIMM 2nd series offers higher performance, increased collector current range, and additional package-technology options that can further reduce the cost of the application by enabling the use of smaller heatsinks.

IXYS Integrated Circuits Division Inc. recently announced the LIA135 and LIA136 low voltage optically isolated error amplifiers each with an integrated programmable precision shunt reference incorporated into a single 8-pin package. These devices is the capability of the error amplifier and shunt reference to operate down to 1.6V, the industry's lowest level, enabling higher efficiency, isolated low voltage power supply designs. The LIA135 and LIA136 offer a 1.299V internal precision voltage reference with a very low 0.5% tolerance for improved power supply accuracy.
Optically isolated error amplifiers are important integrated devices for secondary to primary side feedback in AC-to-DC power supplies and DC-to-DC converters. The LIA135 and LIA136 combination of features are optimal for use in isolated power supply design as the bias current for the shunt regulators does not pass through the LED.
