TT electronics Fixed Resistors business unit announced that it is now able to offer a superior range of components qualified for use in sulphur rich environments. The TT electronics portfolio of chip resistors and resistor arrays is ideal for use in applications such as road side systems, telecommunications equipment, industrial control, automotive and manufacturing processes such as wine production where sulphur bearing gases can corrode similar un-qualified devices.
To resist the problem of corrosion the sulphur resisting BCN and ASC series thick film chip resistors feature special terminations that withstand sulphur-bearing gases. The conductors, resistive element, glass inner protection and epoxy outer protection are applied to an alumina substrate, and the chips are supplied with wrap-around terminations suitable for soldering. Terminations have an electro-plated nickel barrier and a RoHS-compliant 100% matt tin finish. These thick film chip resistors and resistor arrays offer standard sizes from 0201 to 2512, and values 1R0 to 10 Mohm.
The PFC thin film chip resistor series is available in 0402, 0603, 0805 and 1206 sizes with power ratings from 50mW to 333mW and values from 5‡ to1M‡. A Tantalum Nitride resistive film layer provides high precision and ultra-stable performance for long term reliability. Wrap-around terminations with leach-resistant Nickel barriers ensure secure and reliable solder connections.
All TT electronics' sulphur resistant components have been qualified in accordance with ASTM international standard B809-95(2008): "Standard Test Method for Porosity in Metallic Coatings by Humid Sulfur Vapor (Flowers-of-Sulfur)," which demonstrates sulphide growth resistance.
