Resistor Features Corrosion-Resistant Design

Mar 14, 2007 2:05 PM

Stackpole Electronics’ HDM series of axial-leaded film resistors are not susceptible to corrosion in high moisture environments. It has been well documented that film resistors in the presence of moisture and relatively small electrical potential may be vulnerable to corrosion. Whether the film is Nichrome metal film, or carbon film, these conditions set up a chemical reaction that causes the resistive element to become an open circuit.

Designers previously have been forced to use more costly metal glaze technology, to modify their designs to eliminate low power usage, or to modify their final manufacturing process to eliminate moisture and contaminates. The HDM series removes the need for these considerations. The HDM series is available in standard mini 0.5-W and mini 0.25-W leaded-resistor sizes and tolerances as low as 1%. Resistance value range goes from 1 Ω to 2.2 MΩ. Typical pricing is $10.00 to $15.00 per 1000 pieces.
