Stacked Film Caps Promise Better Stability than MLCCs

Jan 9, 2008 12:16 PM

NIC Components’ NSHC and NSPU series of stacked film chip capacitors combine small component size with stability under voltage, stability over time, immunity from cracking and low dielectric loss. Because of these qualities, the stacked film chip capacitors offer an alternative to higher loss and less stable MLCC capacitors. Both ranges are fully RoHS compliant.

The NSHC series uses a stacked metallized polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) film construction that helps it achieve a wide operating temperature range of up to -55ºC to +125ºC and high soldering heat resistance. Available case sizes of 0603, 0805, 1206, 1210, 1913 and 2416 allow NIC to offer capacitance values ranging from 100 pF to 0.22 μF with voltage ratings of either 16 Vdc or 50 Vdc. The NSHC series delivers very stable temperature, frequency, voltage, bias and dielectric absorption characteristics.

The NSPU series features high capacitance value using stacked metallized acrylic resin film construction. Parts are available in 0805, 1206 and 1210 formats with values ranging from 0.068 μF to 1.0 μF and a 16-Vdc rating. Operating temperature range is -40ºC to +85ºC.

Typical unit prices for the NSHC and NSPU series are $0.09 to $0.30.
