Current-Sense Transformers Meet RoHS Directive

The CT Series current sense transformers manufactured by Datatronics Distribution Inc. now meet the requirements of European Directive 20002/95/EC governing the manufacture of electronic components (including bobbin materials) and electronic equipment. The European Union (EU) directive requires the use of lead-free solder as well as the elimination of cadmium and mercury.

The EU directive was published in January 2003 and was adopted in recognition of the waste management environmental problems linked to heavy metals (lead, cadmium, mercury and others). The directive says that electrical and electronic products for sale in the EU after July 1, 2006, with some exceptions, will not contain lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) or polybrominated ethers (PBDEs).

The CT Series current sense transformers for dc-dc converter applications feature a compact 6-mm2 surface-mount design with a 4-mm seated height. Turns ratios are available from 1:20 to 1:200, and it performs optimally at frequencies of 100 kHz and above. Inductance ranges from 100 µH to 11000 µH.

By June 2005, Datatronics will provide RoHS Directive compliant components for all of its standard product lines. Upon customer request Datatronics will supply RoHS-compliant components in the interim time period.
