Anti-surge SMT Resistor Replaces Wirewound and Film Types

Jun 22, 2005 12:29 PM

Stackpole Electronics has introduced an anti-surge, thick-film resistor technology as a surface-mount replacement for wirewound and axial leaded film products. Designated the RPC Series, this surface-mount resistor is available in ohmic values down from 0.27 Ω to 22 MΩ in tolerances to 5% with TCRs of 55 ppm/°C. The RPC Series is rated for operation from -55°C to +150°C.

On the introduction of the RPC, Rob Hudspeth, director of sales and marketing at Stackpole, commented, “The RPC Series is a high energy-chip which handles 1800 W for 1 ms for load-power and transient voltage demands. This technology is also an excellent choice for repetitive surge and pulse load requirements where wirewound and axial-leaded film devices were previously used.”

Typical pricing for the RPC Series is approximately $0.05 to $0.10 each in quantities of 5000.
