Redundancy Modules Create Reliable N+1 DC Power Systems

Sola/Hevi-Duty has introduced a line of DIN rail-mount redundancy modules that allow designers to configure N+1 dc power systems for mission-critical applications, such as life and safety networks, as well as general-purpose process control. Designed for use with Sola/Hevi-Duty SDN-P Performance Series power supplies, the external modules incorporate isolation diodes for extra protection along with visual and dry contact signaling.

The modules are capable of isolating two SDN-P units to create a “no-single-point” of failure redundant design. In the event of a power supply failure, the modules decouple the power supply outputs from each other so that one unit cannot overload the accompanying units. As a result, the system is assured uninterrupted power during the failure period as well as during the ensuing replacement.

SDN-P Performance Series Power Supplies ship standard with a parallel use selector switch for use in redundant or scalable power systems. Using the new redundancy modules, a redundant scheme with up to 8 SDN-P power supplies can be constructed by paralleling the outputs of up to four modules.

The redundant modules are available in two models to cover the entire SDN-P Performance Series power supply line from 60 W to 960 W. The new SDN2.5-20RED is for use with the 2.5-A, 4-A, 5-A, 10-A and 20-A units, with either single-phase or 3-phase inputs. In addition, the SDN3040RED is designed for use with the 30-A or 40-A 3-phase input SDN-P Performance Series power supplies.
