High-Current, Low Cost Power Ferrite Beads

Mar 11, 2009 9:47 AM

Murata Electronics North America introduced a new high-current, power ferrite bead to its BLM series. The competitively priced BLM18KG series offers design engineers numerous benefits including high current capacity, excellent noise suppression and low DC resistance. This ferrite bead is ideal for a wide range of applications including power line filtering for DC power lines located in compact mobile equipment such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), portable navigation devices, digital cameras and cellular phones.

Compared to conventional 0603 power beads, the BLM18KG can manage 1.5 to 2 times the rated current and is capable of handling up to 6 amps. Murata's 0603 sized ferrite beads can offer comparable performance to larger more expensive 0805 and 1206 power and wire wound beads. Another benefit to the BLM18KG series is the low DC resistance because it enables a low voltage drop that reduces power consumption. The DC resistance for the new BLM18KG is approximately 50% lower than conventional ferrite beads. By using less energy, the product's battery life is significantly extended.

The BLM18KG has a sample price of $0.05 with an average lead-time of approximately six to eight weeks. Additional purchasing info can be found online at www.murata-northamerica.com.
