Cherokee International recently announced its first-to-market, eighth-brick isolated C-BUS converter—an intermediate bus converter (IBC) operating at 94% efficiencies to deliver 197-W per cubic inch and 14 A in a 12-V output configuration. This narrow input (42 Vdc to 53 Vdc) quasi-regulated converter has an output voltage range of 9.7 Vdc to 13.3 Vdc. Cherokee's latest bus converter is designed specifically to overcome many of the board-level power-distribution issues of today’s high-functionality silicon ICs used in optical networks, routers, servers and storage switches. Measuring just .89 in. × 2.3 in. × .417 in., the Cherokee International C-BUS converter (CBE1448G1) is optimum for customers who need lower currents in a quarter brick pin-out.

The CBE1448G1 converter supports two-stage, dc power conversions in 48-V systems—which in turn provide power to multiple nonisolated point-of-load (POL) converters. The proprietary driver used within this smart dc transformer minimizes switching losses to maximize efficiency and output current while minimizing the component count and converter cost.

The CBE1448G1 converter meets basic insulation requirements of EN60950 and comes complete with vital industry standard features, such as remote on/off, overtemperature protection, output overcurrent and overvoltage protection, and input undervoltage protection. Other features include 1500-Vdc input to output isolation, no minimum load requirements, constant frequency operation for predictable EMI characteristics, low ripple and noise, and auto restart after fault shutdown.
