Spotlight on Digital Power
From Lambda, a 180-W ac-dc power supply delivers 9.6 W/in³ of power density in a standard 3-in. × 5-in. footprint, while achieving up to 90% efficiency and excellent EMC performance. Part of Lambda’s NV-Power Series of high-density, environmentally friendly ac-dc power supplies, the single-output NV-180 is ideal for use in high-density medical, process control, and test-and-measurement equipment.
The NV-180 is built on Lambda’s patented multiple resonant topology (MRT), which uniquely uses synchronous rectification to achieve the supply’s high efficiency and allows significantly reduced power loss without compromising size for power. The power supply’s 1.25-in. height makes it compatible with 1U enclosures. Moreover, its simple open-frame construction and absence of power components on the underside of the board make the unit easy to cool.
The Lambda NV-180 is initially available with outputs of 5 V, 12 V and 24 V at currents up to 25 A. It also is available with an optional high-power standby output rated at 5 V, 2 A; remote on/off; and power good signal. In addition, a cover option may be specified.
Because of its soft-switch MRT design, the NV-180 has inherently low emissions, aided by the use of silicon carbide Schottky diodes. The new power supply has EN60601 medical approval combined with EN55022 Level B conducted emissionsunique for this class of productas well as EN61010 and EN60950 approvals. The NV-180 is available now, priced at $89 each in 100-unit quantities.
