Spotlight on Digital Power
Emerson Network Power has announced that the Point Of Load Alliance (POLA), in which Emerson’s Astec Power is a member, is intending to jointly design and release products in accordance with the PMbus specification. The digital interface and control specification will make power conversion products more advanced and flexible without increasing complexity for the end user.
The current members of POLA include Texas Instruments, Artesyn, Emerson Network Power’s Astec Power and Ericsson Power Modules. The PMbus is a working group consisting of several power and semiconductor companies that aims to release an open protocol supporting communication to power supplies via a digital bus. During 2005, the members of POLA intend to release digitally controlled products that are completely interoperable. In doing so, POLA members’ products will offer more advanced features.
