Spotlight on Digital Power
Structured cabling and infrastructure management specialist Brand-Rex has signed an OEM deal with PowerDsine, a developer of Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) solutions. Under the deal, Brand-Rex will be launching SMARTPower, which will see the introduction of the PowerDsine 6000 PoE series of products into the U.K.'s new-build and upgrade marketplaces.
Structured cabling is at the heart of all today’s data networks, and new technologies such as WLAN, IP telephony and network cameras, are becoming increasingly commonplace. PoE integrates power and data onto one single cabling infrastructure, supporting Category 5e performance up to 100 meters and eliminating the need to have ac power available at all locations.
PowerDsine CEO Igal Rotem said, “We are extremely pleased that Brand-Rex has selected our Power over Ethernet midspan technology for its customers who are demanding standard-compliant PoE technology. PowerDsine’s PoE midspan technology is ideal for Brand-Rex customers who wish to PoE-enable their network, while protecting their investment in existing Ethernet switches. Today, upgrading networks is critical for the cost-effective deployment of VoIP phones, wireless LAN access points and IP-based security surveillance systems.”
“We chose PowerDsine’s PoE technology because the company is a recognized market leader with an industry-proven PoE solution. The SMARTPower product set falls within Brand-Rex’s focused attack on new intelligent network connectivity solutions, under the “SMART” banner. Other technologies in the range include the SMARTPatch intelligent infrastructure management solution, and the SMARTWave wireless enterprise platform,” said Ian Wilkie, head of marketing, Brand-Rex.
Under the agreement, Brand-Rex will sell and support SMARTPower through its extensive, specialist value added reseller and installer network, which will provide a full range of pre- and post-sales services, including site surveys, network design, deployment, configuration and commissioning.
Brand-Rex, formerly part of Novar Plc’s Intelligent Building Systems Group, is part of Honeywell’s Automation and Control Solutions (ACS) business. The company’s U.K. headquarters are in Viewfield Industrial Estate, Glenrothes, KY6 2RS.
