Potentially LEED Platinum Building is the Largest Solar Installation of its Kind in Indiana

Dec 8, 2010 11:43 AM

Inovateus Solar was a part of the October dedication event for the first potentially LEED Platinum certified transportation building in the nation. The project, a new operations, administration and maintenance facility for TRANSPO in South Bend, Indiana, could become the first LEED Platinum certified transportation facility in the United States. Inovateus Solar is supplying the Uni-Solar photovoltaic roofing material for the project.

  • The TRANSPO roof is a 100Kw Uni-Solar installation -- the largest of its kind in the state of Indiana
  • Uni-Solar thin cell panels cover 17,000 square feet on the roof of the building that replaces a 19th-century facility and prepares TRANSPO to introduce alternative-fueled buses next year.
  • The solar energy installation is an important component for the project's potentially LEED Platinum certification.
  • The Uni-Solar photovoltaic material is easily incorporated after the roof membrane is installed and is also suitable for retrofit applications on existing buildings.

"Inovateus Solar is extremely pleased to be part of the first potentially LEED Platinum certification transportation facility in the United States," says T.J. Kanczuzewski, executive vice president of Inovateus Solar. "With multiple solar installations currently occurring coast to coast, it's nice to have a project like this right in our own home town."
