IR Expands its Portfolio of Leaded Products to Provide Reliable Long Term Solution for HiRel Markets

May 10, 2010 9:48 AM

International Rectifier, IRŪ announced that its HiRel Business Unit (BU) has expanded its portfolio of leaded products to provide a continued long term viable source for customers in the military, aerospace and biomedical markets. IR's HiRel Business Unit has acquired a large portion of the leaded product offerings previously available from the company's commercial divisions. As part of its ongoing commitment to offer leaded products, IR has entered into manufacturing agreements with key assembly subcontractors to 2013, which combined with its own assembly capabilities allows the company to offer customers of its leaded products long term supply agreements.

"Suppliers exiting the leaded product market recommend solder dipping lead-free products as an alternative to leaded products. However, the conversion to lead-free products presents numerous potential risks including the possible need to re-qualify devices, changes to part numbers and approved supply lists, in addition to the potential for yield loss as a result of running the parts through the additional dipping process, said Fred Farris, IR's vice president of sales and marketing, HiRel Business Unit.

IR's HiRel Business Unit will supply leaded parts with no change in the bill of material, manufacturing process, manufacturing location or quality system. These leaded parts will be supplied through IR distributors.

For those customers in need of uptesting, IR's HiRel Business Unit offers Testing Services to end customers seeking critical electrical, reliability and qualification testing. The breadth of IR's standard offerings includes a wide combination of electrical testing, die services, quality compliance, device evaluation, environmental testing, and packaging services for MOSFETs, diodes, IGBTs, bipolar transistors and power ICs housed in a broad range of  industry-standard packages. Radiation testing is offered as a non-standard offering. In addition to standard offerings, custom requests are reviewed for consideration.

Services are performed in IR's 68,000 ft2, JANS, Class K, ISO4001, ISO9001, and AS9100 certified facility in Leominster, Massachusetts. The state-of-the-art facility designs and manufactures IR's discrete components, power modules and motor controllers for high reliability applications.
