Spotlight on Digital Power
Cherokee International has introduced its next-generation Polaris 2 half-brick dc-dc converter family. Delivering 120 A for the 1.2-V, 1.5-V and 1.8-V versions, the Polaris 2 product family is able to achieve the performance of previous-generation full bricks. The converter family also can generate a 2.5-V output at 100 A, 3.3 V at 80 A, or 5 V at 55 A. When operated with 300 LFM of airflow, these dc-dc converters will deliver full power without derating at ambients up to 50°C.
The Polaris 2 converters are based on a fixed-frequency design that uses synchronous rectification to achieve efficiencies up to 92%. In addition, the converters have an ultrafast loop response to minimize peak deviations, and the units meet an input voltage transient requirement of 100 V for 100 ms.
The converters are offered in open-frame packaging or with an optional base plate to enhance thermal performance in harsh environments. The Polaris 2 converters support the “double p” pinout standard, having two output pins to handle high current. Polaris 2 is priced at $99 each in quantities of 1000.
