Chipmaker Expands Focus on Energy Efficiency in Manufacturing

Aug 27, 2008 2:14 PM

Fairchild Semiconductor has formed a global Energy and Environmental Design Team to identify energy conservation projects at its major manufacturing sites worldwide This team, comprised of individuals from Fairchild locations around the world, meets on a regular basis to share best practices and suggestions on fostering corporate responsibility, reducing operating costs through energy conservation and reducing the impact on the climate.

"Sustainability has always been important to Fairchild, but it is becoming even more important as we try to do our part in reducing our climate impact and our consumption of energy and water," said Robin Goodwin, executive vice president of Manufacturing and Supply Chain. “We provide products that help consumers reduce power consumption in electronic applications and we feel it is our duty to actively pursue our own sustainability and green business practices."

Fairchild's global team is made up of local teams from facilities, manufacturing, environment and finance departments at each of the company's major sites worldwide managed by the director of Corporate Environmental Health & Safety (EHS). These local teams are chartered to identify energy efficient initiatives that contribute to environmental efficiency at their locations. Best practices will be shared throughout the company.
