Fairchild Semiconductor is continuing to expand its commitment in the China market by adding Global Power Resource Centers in Shanghai and Shenzhen, and increasing headcount and capacity at its Suzhou facility.

“China is a key part of Fairchild’s global strategy, as clearly indicated by our commitment to this region through many initiatives including our Global Power Resource Centers and our Suzhou facility,” said Eric Kuo Fairchild’s president and managing director of Asia Pacific. “When combined with the recent opening of the joint technology laboratory with Changhong, these announcements demonstrate Fairchild’s penetration of this complex and rapidly expanding market.”

Fairchild’s expanded Global Power Resource Centers have the expertise and equipment to provide comprehensive power design solutions for electronic applications in the principal Asian end markets of consumer, computing and telecom systems, and in power supplies for today’s electronic devices. Fairchild’s Global Power Resource Centers worldwide address the power design requirements for automotive, industrial, consumer, ultraportable and computing applications.

“The Global Power Resource Centers provide complete power design solutions. We improve performance, reduce part count, reduce inventory costs, reduce time-to-market and enhance design functionality for our customers,” said Kuo. “Examples of achievements by Fairchild’s Global Power Resource Centers include reduction in part count in a color TV power supply from 200 to 60 devices, a 60% reduction in board space for automotive ignition control systems, and the implementation of an ultraslim power supply design for an LCD TV.”

Able to turn around designs as quickly as two weeks, the Shenzhen and Shanghai Centers provide customers with fully engineered solutions, including demo boards, detailed information for “Bill-of-Materials” (BOMs) and turnkey designs, including Orcad and GerberEx files that can be incorporated into their own solutions and application notes. Fairchild has six centers worldwide, four are located in Asia: Shanghai and Shenzhen, China; Bucheon, Korea; and Taipei, Taiwan.

Fairchild is increasing headcount and ramping capacity at its assembly and test facility and automated warehouse in Suzhou. The facility, opened in the fall of 2003, initially employed 570. Today it has nearly 820 employees. By 2005, the staff is expected to reach nearly 2000 and upon completion of the second phase, approximately 3500 people are expected to work at the plant.
