Engineering Center Supports Power Design in South Korea

ON Semiconductor has debuted its new Solutions Engineering Center (SEC) in Seoul, South Korea. Established to further support key local strategies, the SEC is housed within the company’s new downtown offices.

This expanded facility will offer advanced power management solutions for the cell phone, portable devices, computer, power supply and automotive market. The SEC will focus on providing in-depth development platforms and local product support to better serve those customers who design and manufacture cellular handsets and handheld electronic devices throughout South Korea.

“Expanding operations and establishing the SEC in Seoul signifies our commitment to strengthening relationships with our customers in South Korea and providing focused, long-term support,” said Bill Bradford, ON Semiconductor senior vice president of Sales and Marketing. “The SEC is just one of the innovative ways ON Semiconductor is working to help our customers solve their toughest power designs challenges to grow their business.”

In five years between 1999 and 2004, ON Semiconductor’s business in South Korea has grown by almost 300%. “We see major opportunities here, especially in the portable/wireless space, “said Bradford. “Handset production in South Korea is estimated to be about 30% of the global production in 2005, with a compound annual growth rate of 46% anticipated. Most of this growth is to be contributed by our key customers who are market makers that drive the portable market segment.”

“We regard the SEC as a direct investment in both our customers’ and our own success,” said Peter Green, ON Semiconductor senior vice president and general manager of Integrated Power Group. “The SEC’s application engineers and system experts will work closely with our customers to jointly develop cost-effective and space-saving portable power solutions that drive new products and revenues.

The new ON Semiconductor Seoul office, which is located in the Kookmin Yucksam Building, is headed by Sales Director of Korea J.D. Lee. The SEC is led by director S.B. Lee.
