DIN Rail Supplies Expand 3-Phase Options

As they grow their product portfolios, manufacturers of industrial-grade DIN-rail power supplies are adding options for 3-phase ac input to complement their single-phase products. One example is the DHP480 Series of 480-W supplies recently introduced by Lambda Power. Designed to be an economical solution for industrial applications, such as process control, factory automation and automotive manufacturing, these supplies are available with either single- or 3-phase input.

The model DHP480-24-1 accepts a wide single-phase input range of 85 Vac to 264 Vac, while the DHP480-24-3 accepts a 3-phase input of 340 Vac to 575 Vac. These universal input ranges eliminate the need for preselecting the ac input range prior to shipping.

Both versions deliver 20 A at 24 V, and feature low ripple and noise output—less than 50 mV. The output is user adjustable from 21.6 V to 28 V. Other standard features include a 30-sec 150% peak current capability, output status lights, a remote on/off input and an undervoltage alarm relay.

In addition, these supplies are approved to UL508, UL60950 and EN60950 specifications. And in line with industrial-grade power supply requirements, these units are convection cooled and can operate at full power over a temperature range of -10°C to +60°C. These supplies derate linearly at 5% per degree above 60°C to 70°C.

Both models measure 4.92 in. (H) × 5.51 in. (W) × 5.34 in. (D). Available now, the DHP480 series is priced starting at $300 in single-unit quantities.

Another power supply vendor, Astec Power, also expanded its DIN-power supply portfolio by adding 3-phase input models to its ADN series. In April, the company introduced a number of 3-phase models spanning the 120-W to 960-W range. All of these units feature a nominal output voltage of 24 Vdc and a 20-ms holdup time, as well as a 50% brownout tolerance from the selected nominal input voltage. These supplies are designed to operate at temperatures up to 60°C with no derating and no forced-air cooling requirement.

The new models feature nominal output current ranges from 5 A to 40 A, depending upon the power rating, and support up to double their rated current for up to 2 sec. The devices sport a user-friendly front panel with adjustable voltage control, parallel operation switch, convenient input/output connections and dc status indicator, along with easy mounting hardware on the rear for DIN-rail installation.

Featuring an industrial-grade design with high mean time between failures (MTBF) and efficiency greater than 90%, the units are approved for use in Class 1, Div 2 hazardous locations and meet the SEMI F47 standard requirements for voltage sag immunity in semiconductor fabrication equipment. All models incorporate Power Factor Correction and auto select between 340-Vac and 576-Vac nominal input voltages.

For comparison with the Lambda model, Astec’s 480-W model in the ADN series (the ADN-20-24-3PM) measures 4.88 in. × 5.90 in. × 4.55 in, which is slightly smaller in volume than Lambda’s DHP480-24-3.
