DC-DC Module Market to Exceed $5 Billion in Five Years

May 18, 2005 2:22 PM

A recent report from the Darnell Group predicts that the market for dc-dc converter modules will grow from nearly $3.3 billion in 2005 to $5.4 billion in 2010. The growth of specific application areas along with general trends in power-supply requirements are factors contributing to this growth.

From an application point of view, the computer segment in North America and the communications segment in Asia are providing the greatest opportunities. From an architectural point of view, the faster-than-expected adoption of the intermediate bus architecture is driving sales of nonisolated point-of-load converters and bus converters, which are two of the fastest-growing dc-dc converter segments. Additionally, the trends toward lower operating voltages, higher current levels and higher wattages are providing growth possibilities in a number of key areas.

The 364-page Eighth Edition of the Darnell Group's analysis of dc-dc converters includes 125 tables and 127 graphs that detail the many trends providing opportunities for dc-dc module makers.
