Conference Examines Efficiency of Server/Data Centers

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR program is partnering with equipment manufacturers, buyers, utilities, building managers and other interested parties to identify solutions to the growing energy demands of high-density enterprise servers and data center facilities. This free conference will be held Jan. 30, 2006, through Feb. 1, 2006, at the Marriott Santa Clara., Santa Clara, Calif.

The conference will begin with a welcome reception on January 30 from 6 pm to 8 pm The following day, the conference begins in earnest with a meeting from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm at the Sun Microsystems Conference Facility in Santa Clara. Industry leaders and energy-efficiency experts will open this meeting by discussing trends and challenges in the marketplace. A panel of end users then will emphasize their desire for improved efficiencies in data centers. The second half of the day promises to identify roadblocks to efficiency and drive the group toward solutions with the help of relevant case studies and small group working sessions.

On February 1, attendees will meet from 8:30 am to 12:45 pm at the AMD Conference Facility in Sunnyvale, Calif. Here, the discussion will focus on "Challenges in Building Operations and Management for Owners/Operators of Service Providers and Enterprise Data Centers and the Development of the ENERGY STAR Building Benchmark for Mission Critical Facilities."

Industry experts will open this meeting by discussing the relationship between energy efficiency and data center reliability, as well examining the potential for improved energy performance in data centers. Both current and future technologies will be addressed in these discussions. During the late morning session, ENERGY STAR program managers will lead a group discussion on the continuing development of energy performance rating tools for data centers, financial service centers and telecom facilities.
