THE RNCP Series thin-film resistors from SEI provide high accuracy with a low standard TCR in a low-profile chip. The thin-film devices represent a low-cost alternative to resistors constructed with high-power thick-film resistive technology.
Impervious to sulfur contamination, the RNCP resistors provide highly stable and accurate performance characteristics to suit applications such as computers and computer accessories. The parts are RoHS-compliant without exemptions, as they do not contain any Pb-containing glass. In addition, the elimination of silver and gold, used in traditional sulfur-resistant applications, reduces the overall cost of the resistor.
The thin-film resistors were developed with a high tolerance for harsh environments, including shock, vibration, and extreme temperatures, with the goal of enhancing their performance and lifespan. The thin-film technology provides high power handling, stability, and low noise, to suit applications such as notebook computers, printers, scanners, and test instruments.
“In recent years, consumer electronics have trended toward more green products, increasing the demand for components with reduced package size and higher energy performance,” said Kory Schroeder, director of marketing at SEI. “With the development of these new thin-film resistors, we are able to meet customer requirements for a smaller chip size and yet keep the cost within 10% of comparable thick-film chips.”
Featuring absolute tolerances to 1% and a TCR of 100ppm/°C, the resistors are available in 0402, 0603, 0805, and 1206 chip sizes and are rated from 0.1 to 0.5 W. Maximum working voltages range from 50 V to 200 V.
The RNCP Series is available on standard 7-inch reels. Pricing varies with chip size, tolerance, and resistance value, and ranges from around $1 to $10 per thousand in full reel quantities.
