New Name Brings New Focus and Style

With the new year just months away, we are excited to share with you some of our plans and recent changes. To begin, we've changed the name of the magazine to Power Electronics Technology. We chose to eliminate the PCIM acronym (power conversion and intelligent motion, i.e. motors and motion control) because of the evolving magazine focus and related industry support. The change from Power Electronic Systems to Power Electronics Technology better reflects the broader scope of our market.

While we progress with the industry, you'll see more changes in the coming year. We are revamping our magazine with some aesthetic changes and new content. The first question to ask is whether there are any new hot industry topics we should be covering in our cover stories and feature articles. We will select these subjects based on inputs from you, our readers.

We also want to make sure we continue to carry feature articles on the most popular subjects in the industry. We determine the subjects of the greatest reader interest with the inquiry cards that you fill out and send back to us. We've found that four topics get the most attention from our readers: power semiconductors, magnetics, passive components, and thermal management. With this in mind, we plan to include more articles on these subjects in 2002. We've also determined that engineers want more feature articles on power supply integration. We'll also continue to include articles on power supply design with a focus on specific issues related to dc-dc converters, ac-dc converters, and VRM power supplies.

Some other new efforts in 2002 include special reports and monthly columns. The reports feature supplier input on specific products or technologies in each of the four main subject areas. Experts from the power electronics industry will address subject matter with the greatest reader interest. The addition of these monthly columns will allow us to extend our coverage and provide detailed industry perspective.

We are soliciting ideas for feature stories and the monthly columns, and value your input. If you have any suggestions for articles, or are interested in writing a monthly (one-page) column for the magazine, please contact us at editor@powerelectronics.com.

We trust the increased focus and expanded coverage will enhance the value of Power Electronics Technology to our readership. The new changes reflect the strength of the industry and the increased opportunity to share information on the most important topics. Our goal is to better serve your interests in the years ahead.
