Spotlight on Digital Power
Power Electronics Technology is pleased to welcome longtime industry veteran Alan Elbanhawy as a monthly columnist at our website, www.powerelectronics.com. Currently serving as director in the Advanced Power System Center at Fairchild Semiconductor International, Elbanhawy has more than 38 years of engineering experience in power-supply design and research and development management covering aerospace, military, commercial and industrial applications. He holds seven patents and has applications for seven more. As a contributing author, his articles have appeared in five languages, and he has presented papers at all the major power conferences around the world. Elbanhawy holds a BSEE degree from Cairo University in Egypt.
Elbanhawy's first column, now available here, discusses the trend toward higher-frequency operation in dc-dc converters. He explains, “The writing is on the wall. Because of advances in semiconductor technology and packaging, the road is now clear for operation at switching frequencies beyond 5 MHz — a capability that offers great possibilities.”
