Integrated Engineering Software (IES) recently announced an agreement with Simulation Research, the Netherlands, to market, codevelop, and support the electrical drives and power electronics simulation software tool CASPOC. “We see this relationship as a great opportunity to bring our combined technologies to the marketplace and offer a fully integrated, multiphysics solution to the end user,” said Peter Van Duijsen, President of Simulation Research.
Design engineers use CASPOC to simulate circuit, component, machine, and load characteristics in power and control devices and systems such as: switchmode power supplies, rectifiers, dc converters, ac converters, vector controls, power engineering, and UPS in such industries as aerospace, automotive, utility, industrial, commercial electronics, and transportation.
International Rectifier and Mitsubishi Electric Sign Development Agreement
International Rectifier (IR) and Mitsubishi Electric Engineering Company Limited (MEE) announced they will collaborate to develop, manufacture, and sell integrated power solutions and turnkey power systems for space-level applications, such as communications and telemetry satellites.
International Rectifier Hi-Rel Components and Subsystems Group is a leading supplier of radiation-hardened MOSFETs and multichip module dc-dc converters, radiation-tolerant and industry standard voltage regulators, power modules, and other discrete semiconductors. Aerospace, commercial aircraft, military, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, industrial controls, and communication applications all use IR products.

VDC Study Shows Dominate Power Supply Industry Companies
Venture Development Corp. (VDC) recently released a market study titled “Merchant Markets and Applications for AC/DC Switching Power Supplies, DC/DC Converters, and Telecom Rectifiers: North America, 9th Edition; Europe, 3rd Edition.” The study found that only six vendors accounted for 50% of the 2001 market of ac-dc, dc-dc, and telecom rectifiers — despite the hundreds of manufacturers currently serving the North American and European merchant markets. “There were nine companies in 1998 that dominated the market, now there are six. This trend towards market consolidation and selective growth is expected to continue in the foreseeable future,” said Nathan Andrews, VDC analyst.
Despite this dominance among the top power supply vendors in the North American and European markets, hundreds of smaller players (typically in the $1 million to $30 million range) have found smaller market niches not hit as hard in recent months.
