NAVTEQ Traffic expands to Orlando and Tampa

Jun 22, 2005 2:27 PM

Digital map data provider NAVTEQ has expanded its NAVTEQ Traffic service into Orlando and Tampa, Florida. It’s already available in 20 other U.S. cities. XM Satellite Radio’s NavTraffic, which is based on the NAVTEQ service, simultaneously announced its expansion into the two new markets.

NAVTEQ Traffic enables navigation systems to provide personalized, real-time traffic information for a driver's chosen route. The firm aggregates traffic information from multiple sources including commercial traffic data providers, government departments of transportation, police and emergency services, road sensors, cameras and airborne reports.

NAVTEQ said navigation systems were introduced as a new option on 29 car models in North America last year. The technology is currently available on 139 models, representing 79% of vehicles sold in North America, the company said.
