Hybrid vehicles can produce between 144 V and 650 V or enough to electrocute rescue workers responding to accidents, according to State Farm insurance. State Farm is aiming a national education effort at firefighters and emergency medical services workers. A broadcast on the topic is available on the web at www.statefarm.com/sftv/sftv.htm.
"With automakers producing more technically advanced vehicles, rescue workers need to know how to avoid potentially dangerous situations," said Ron Moore, an automobile extrication trainer with the McKinney, Texas fire department, who is featured in the broadcast.
