Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. is offering a series of gauges that work with an aftermarket vehicle dynamics processor (AVG-VDP1) and in-dash audio/video display, providing real-time measurement and data logging.
The gauges measure latitude, longitude, altitude and slope; angular velocity (turn rate), and forward, backward and lateral G-Force (acceleration, braking and cornering respectively). Horsepower and torque estimates are available, as are a clock, compass, GPC locator, tachometer, speedometer, and voltage meter.
“Auto enthusiasts continue to install performance products such as exhaust and suspension systems, brake kits or turbochargers to improve their vehicle's performance,” says Michael Townsen, Pioneer’s vice president of marketing for mobile entertainment. “Our vehicle dynamics gauges help them accurately measure the benefits of those upgrades.”
Townsen says the AVG-VDP1 collects data from an internal 3-D hybrid gyro sensor, a connection to the vehicle's speed sensor, and GPS. A processor and graphics engine provide the graphics display, and built-in flash memory\records performance data.
The latitude/longitude measurement and GPS locator benefit off-road driving.
“A consumer can set the GPS locator to a particular location, such as a campsite, and spend the day out exploring. When they are ready to return to the campsite, they simply select the designated location and an arrow on-screen will let them know where they are in relation to the campsite in linear distance and direction,” Townsen explains.
Graphical gauge display modes can be set to analog or digital style and can be customized for background color, text color and outside ring (bezel) color.
