At the SAE World Congress, scientists from automotive LED technology developer OSRAM compared the performance attributes of LEDs against those of conventional light sources, outlined the benefits of LED standardization in automotive lighting, and described some of the technical challenges facing LED forward lighting applications, including thermal management.
"Standardized LED forward lighting provides improved control of optical tolerances and allows OEMs to achieve greater economies of scale," said OSRAM applications senior scientist Thomas Tessnow. OSRAM offers a standardized LED forward lighting system that uses LED light sources capable of generating about 300 lumens of light output.
