Citing recent studies by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTS and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety(IIHS), General Motors has decided to make ESC a standard feature on light-duty full-size SUVs beginning immediately and on midsize SUVs next year. Both studies indicated that ESC deployment could result in a significant safety benefit. The automaker estimates that it’s installed ESC in approximately two million vehicles since 1997.
