Gentex Corporation says it’s shipping auto-dimming rear-view mirrors for the 2005 Toyota Tacoma. Gentex executive vice president Garth Deur says the Tacoma mirrors are Toyota’s first factory-installed application of interior auto-dimming mirrors in the compact/small pick-up truck segment.
Based on a proprietary electrochromic technology, Gentex’ mirrors darken automatically to reduce glare from the headlamps of vehicles approaching from the rear. The brighter the glare, the darker the mirrors become, making nighttime driving safer.
