Serial EEPROMs serve auto apps

A new line of serial EEPROM devices from Integrated Silicon Solution Inc. (ISSI) operates from 2.5 V to 5.5 V and is available in 1 K, 2 K, 4 K, 8 K and 16K densities, and I2 C, Microwire and SPI interface protocols. The I2 C and SPI devices are also offered in 32 K and 64 K densities.

Fabricated on 0.35 micron process technology at SMIC, the devices are characterized for the -40 to +125 C automotive temperature range. They reduce standby power by 25%, according to Sanjiv Asthana, vice president of sales and marketing, and they increase to 10 MHz the maximum speed of the SPI versions.

Asthana said the EEPROMs are used in remote control door locks, power seats and mirrors with memory, radios, odometers, alarm systems, and other applications where unique or user-defined codes need to be stored.
