Cree Inc. has licensed COTCO International to manufacture Indium Gallium Nitride (inGaN) white LEDs under a Cree patent, using Cree-supplied die and Cree’s phosphor conversion technology. Hong Kong-based COTCO said it’s already seen a “significant” increase in white LED sales and expects “a continued upswing, especially from manufacturers in China.”
According to the research firm Strategies in Light, white LEDs represent approximately half of the high-brightness LED market, which is expected to grow from $3.7 billion to $7 billion by 2009.
