Research and Markets eyes biometrics to thwart vehicle theft

Jun 22, 2005 2:31 PM

Noting that the use of immobilizer technology has prompted changes in the behavior of car thieves, Research and Markets has published “An analysis of biometric technology for automotive security applications.”

The firm said that according to survey data, well over half the thefts of cars less than six years old involved the theft of car keys through deception, fraud, burglary or direct force. Biometric technology may be effective in verifying that the vehicle owner is using the vehicle key. The report assesses fingerprint, iris, face and voice recognition against key factors such as cost, security, application and customer acceptance.
