Power Electronics Technology Announces 2005 Product of the Year Award

Oct 20, 2005 4:49 PM

Overland Park, KS (Oct. 18, 2005) - Power Electronics Technology magazine (PE Tech) announces Tribotek's LowR Power Contacts are the recipient of the 2nd annual Product of the Year Award. PE Tech editor David Morrison will present this year's award at PowerSystems World Expo in Baltimore, Oct. 25-27. The Product of the Year Award recognizes a product that has made a significant advancement in the state of the power electronics art.

The October issue of PE Tech features Tribotek's new found success. As a startup company, Tribotek is breaking into the connector business with their new LowR contact design. Power distribution and interconnect components tend to evolve rather slowly when measured against the general pace of development in power supply technologies. As power supplies reach higher levels of power and current density, Tribotek's LowR contact design promises to help power connectors keep pace with these advances. The company's design increases the connector’s current-carrying capacity in a given form factor, lowers voltage drops across the connector, and reduces insertion force versus existing power interconnect products.

“Though rarely in the spotlight, power connectors are critical to the performance of advanced power systems. And despite the importance of these components, breakthroughs in power connector technology are relatively rare," said David Morrison, editor of PE Tech. "Tribotek's innovative redesign of the power contact is exciting because it enables the development of a new class of power connectors that offer dramatically better performance than conventional power connectors. At the same time, the new contacts are designed to be cost competitive with the existing technology, making them useful in a wide range of applications.”
